Application of wall reaming while drilling technique in Weizhou oilfield

  • The development of offshore oil and gas fields is dominated by directional wells with cluster platforms. Restricted by formation heterogeneity and well bore cleanliness, irregular well bore lining and cuttings bed are easily formed in directional drilling, which lead to problems such as stuck in tripping and difficulty in casing running. For this reason, PDC cutting teeth are welded on the centralized wing to increase the function of scratching and destroying the cuttings bed, forming a scratch device for repairing the wall while drilling, improving the quality of the well bore, and then improving the drilling efficiency. Field application in Weizhou oilfield in the west of south China sea shows that this technology can effectively wipe thick mud cake from permeable sandstone well bore, repair irregular well bore lining formed by PDC bits in soft and hard staggered formation, destroy cuttings bed of highly inclined wells, reduce the number of short trips and through wells, and improve drilling efficiency.
