Study on potential tapping technique of horizontal wells in underwater distributary channel of X oilfield

  • Based on the "narrow, scatter and thin" features in reservoir channels, an integration approach was applied for multi-disciplinary technologies that include geology, well logging, seismic inversion, geological modeling and numerical simulation. By using this methodology, the reservoir structure and sand body distribution can be characterized in more details. Application of this approach has accurately captured remaining oil potentials, has optimized the configuration and trajectory for the horizontal wells, and has developed an injection-production adjustment plan for the late stage development. The process has helped to establish a set of design procedures for drilling horizontal wells in these sub channels. Applying these procedures has improved and accomplished real-time drilling adjustment technology through the drilling implementation process. This technique is suitable for thin reservoirs that have large structural fluctuation longitudinally, highly lateral variations in microfiches and poor channel continuity. The procedure has achieved accurate control on geo-steering and has maximized net-pay intervals. Newly drilled horizontal wells by this technique have resulted in low water-cut productions while the reservoir is in its high water-cut production period.
