Abstract: This paper introduces the latest technical development and application of overhead drilling system of the major producers in the world, such as Varco Company, Tesco Company and Canrig Company. It also overviews the technical development of alternating current variable -frequency top drive rig in China. Some proposals are presented to develop the domestic AC drive overhead drilling system.
